Review: McCall 5388

OK.... I realized I just deleted my whole "On the Cutting Table" list instead of just the McCall 5388 from the list. Erm... so I'll add it back after I remember or find the cut patterns & fabric that are lying somewhere around & under stuff in my sewing area..... um anyway.. Here's today's review!

I ditched work early today to finish up:
McCall 5388

Size: 14

Pattern critique: easy, but time consuming for me. I did a lot of pressing. An advanced sewer could prolly whip this up in a couple of hours. Very few pieces and they all matched up perfectly. Instructions were not read. I only referred to the pics which were excellent! I'm sure the instructions were great tho.

Fabric: semi-sheer very lightweight poly print from Joann. It has sort of a broomstick/wrinkly texture.

Modifications: No size mods. I did not use bias tape since my fabric was so lightweight. I used lace hem tape instead.

Results: I think this is a wearable muslin. I'm glad that the sleeves aren't extra puffy, like in the pattern drawing. The neck is kind of wide, but I plan on wearing a cami anyway. The only thing I'm iffy about is that the gathers hit me right above mid-point of the bust. Makes "the girls" look extra high and I feel self conscious when I glance down. To soften the look for this top I will let it fall off my shoulders. For future tops, I'm guessing I will have to shave between an inch or two off the yoke to bring the gathers up some.

I was at Joann's today with a friend and told her I was spending too much time on the blogs because I swear I saw you as I was leaving the parking lot.

Nice blouse. Where is the bias tape used?

I have this pattern too and I'm planning to make that same view.

You have the most gorgeous view off of your deck, by the way!!

Thanks ladies! I actually got a compliment on my top from a teenager! this afternoon.

& Cidell that probably was me. I stopped at the one in OM this morning to look at the new New Look & Butterick catalogs.

Oh and the bias tape is used as a facing for the back neckline.

Yep. Then that was you. I was there around 11 or so. I would have said 'hi' but it seemed a leetle stalkerish :)

LOL @ cidell! no way I don't think that is stalkerish. Everytime I go in Joann I wonder if anyone there is on PatternReview.
