Black Sunday

My daytime sewing view

What a week!

I'll try to keep this short & sweet...

  1. Monday I met Cidell at A Fabric Place in Baltimore. It was fun meeting her and being in a new (expensive) fabric store. I only picked up some shirting to experiment with but I will get back there soon because I want to start working with wool.
  2. Wednesday night I prepared my Patti Labelle's famous mac n cheese and two sweet potato cheesecakes.
  3. Thursday morning I finally started sewing! I made
    1. A jacket for Addy
    2. and worked on McCalls 5244 for my SWAP
  4. Friday, I got up bright & early to hit a couple of sales. I spent the night at my mom's because she is closer to the shopping I needed to do. I got goodies at Joann's of course. Spent all of $42 --the retail price of those gingher shears (yes Cidell, I'm biting because those things felt good!) and a stationary trainer from Performance Bicycle. I got back to mom's & stitched up some pillow covers for little sis AND look at the cute little gizmo mommy gave me!
  5. Saturday I tested out the trainer and worked on a UFO that I'll add to my swap. I'm having issues with the zipper puckering right below the curve of my lower back (not shown because zipper is partially removed now), so it'll be a UFO until I study up & figure that part out. Here's a preview on lopsided Betsey Brown. (it's McCall's 5466)
ciao for now!

I am a little bitter I did not get the scissors at Joann's on Friday morning. Not terribly, just a little. But, I loooove them. They cut like butter.

I like the plaid you are using for your dress. I think that might be next on my list.

Oh, and the collar on the McCalls is really neat.

I love how you cut the plaid on the bias for the skirt of the dress and the little swing it causes! Tres kewl!

Okay. That sweet potato cheesecake recipe is a must have! Thanks for the link. If you have a TNT recipe for sweet potato pie, DO share :) ! DH has been bothering me to make it and I don't have a good, "proven" recipe for it.

Looks like you've been very busy. I really like the way your dress is coming along! I hadn't even noticed that other view on that pattern! LOL

Hi, if your back (nape to waist)length is correct, then it could be that you need to interface the seam allowance for the zipper, if you haven't done so already. Interface it all the way down into the skirt area.

I think the bias is stretching a bit too much, and this is exaggerated by the zipper.

I agree with the other commenter that you probably need to either add interfacing to the entire zipper area plus 1" or more (or if you've already done that, you could try reinforcing with another layer of interfacing).

I'd look for a woven interfacing with a definite grain line and interface the skirt back at the zipper area on the straight of grain.

P.S. I love your "sewing view" ... mine's a wall!

I think this is similar to the problem I had in that it's gotten off grain and stretching. I agree with a previous poster who said to interface the zipper area. I would also take in the extra at the waist line too.

Thanks!! I'm gonna try the interfacing, none of my books really go into detail on zipper installation, just the basics. I'll try to get on this tonight.

I LOVE this dress. The plaid is beautiful and I really like the bias on the skirt. This has just the right amount of flair. I have looked at this pattern several times, but never really looked at this view. I love it.
