Review: New Look 6736
Size:14
Pattern Critique: easy enuff for beginners, well drafted, pretty current style
Fabric: 97%cotton/3%spandex from Joann's, lining is a silky poly print from stash
Modifications: under collar & facings were done in a contrast, used only one button - from the stash instead of four (didnt feel like buying more buttons)
Results: Cute! I wasn't sure if I could pull off wearing a red jacket after starting this project and offered it up to my little sis. but now I'm thinking I might keep it for a while. I know it'll look cool w/ a pair of jeans, a black turtle neck & boots for the fall. I want another one in tweed/boucle!
Review: Simplicity 3692
Size:14
Pattern Critique: too easy, didn't even look at the directions
Fabric: poly jersey from aunt
Modifications:I shortcuted this because I needed some instant gratification after working on the jacket all week.
I was also short on fabric so I omitted the yoke lining and just finished off the neckline with a bias strip cut from the scraps of the fabric.
Shortened about 5 inches because it was sooo long - well past my knee (i'm 5'6)
Results: cute, quick sew. This will work in the winter. I'll wear it with a turtleneck, tights and ankle boots. I bought this because I saw a similar look in a recent Lucky. I'll do one more in long sleeve.

Darling coat and dress.
this is such a beautiful outfit! Don't give that gorgeous coat away, its suits you so much!Eithn
I really like the coat - it has such a great "swing-y" shape to it. Eithn's right - keep it!!!
That coat looks amazing on you. Nice work!
I think the coat looks adorable and I would keep it for a long time before I pass it on. the dress is so cute, I bought a couple of those rtw last week, but I just may go get the pattern because they are so comfy and easy with leggings and flats,, great post!
Both of those look teriffic. The dress fabric is fabulous.
Both of these are wonderful. So stylish!
That coat is adorable... it makes a great "statement coat". I'm loving that dress. I have that pattern... I bought it for the shirt, but I love your dress so much, I think I'll do that. Fabulous job!
What a stunning ensemble. You will look totally awesome in this.
Love both the dress and the trench! Are you seriously going to give the coat to your sister? The dress and coat look soooooo good together!
The coat is fabulous! I can't believe how much more stylish it looks in reality than in the pattern envelope... The zebra contrast is the perfect touch!
Fantastic coat!!! I love it!
merci, merci all for the encouragement!!! I showed my sis the coat, but she didnt try to take it.
She must have felt that I still wanted it. I am promising myself that I am going to wear it. I need to be red hot sometimes!
Of course you can "pull it off!" I wouldn't doubt it for a minute. My mom always said that red is a neutral color, like black, navy, or grey, and she's right. Look around...you'll see red shoes and bags with every other color. I think it's a great piece that you'll wear a lot!
oh my!!!! That's one sharp red coat!!! Can I borrow it? LOL
Great job!
With friendship,
Lisa
I just bought this pattern and in searching for reviews, found your blog. You did a great job with the jacket; definitely going to make it. It's gorgeous on you.
