I finally took care of my red trench - it's a couple of seasons late and it's not exactly a trench but bada-da-da-da!

Pattern Critique: easy enuff for beginners, well drafted, pretty current style

Fabric: 97%cotton/3%spandex from Joann's, lining is a silky poly print from stash

Modifications: under collar & facings were done in a contrast, used only one button - from the stash instead of four (didnt feel like buying more buttons)

Results: Cute! I wasn't sure if I could pull off wearing a red jacket after starting this project and offered it up to my little sis. but now I'm thinking I might keep it for a while. I know it'll look cool w/ a pair of jeans, a black turtle neck & boots for the fall. I want another one in tweed/boucle!

Pattern Critique: too easy, didn't even look at the directions

Fabric: poly jersey from aunt

Modifications:I shortcuted this because I needed some instant gratification after working on the jacket all week.

I was also short on fabric so I omitted the yoke lining and just finished off the neckline with a bias strip cut from the scraps of the fabric.

Shortened about 5 inches because it was sooo long - well past my knee (i'm 5'6)

Results: cute, quick sew. This will work in the winter. I'll wear it with a turtleneck, tights and ankle boots. I bought this because I saw a similar look in a recent Lucky. I'll do one more in long sleeve.

Now I'll focus finding on my notions (buttons, buckles..). I would have done a tortoise button if I'd have gone with a brown print, but I think now I'll go for red or silvertone, or even something pearly/marbly. They have to be just right. I'm NOT settling for any run of the mill JoAnn stuff this time.

I've had to add a new item to the cutting table Vogue 8191. My littlest sis has her final formal in May so she commissioned me (w/o pay) to make her dress. Last year's dress was a semi-success, because it was my very first formal project, but I learned NOT to use the cheapest fabric I could find (some drunk buzzard stepped on her trail and ripped it!) I made Vogue 7521. Dont have a pic right now, but I'll post it when I get a hold of it.

She comes over for a fitting this weekend so I'll get some pics of the new dress then.

Red Trench - Vote Please!!!

Found my red trench fabric!

It's a red stretch cotton twill. Of course I got it from JoAnn (I just can't stay away from her) Now I just haf'ta find the perfect buttons, and buckle, of which I want to try and coordinate with the lining - which has to be tres chic.

As far as the lining is concerned, I'm trying to decide whether I want to pull from my stash or buy something new.

I Wish I Had a Red Trench...

I'm on a mission for a belted RED trench for the spring. I've got this pattern: McCall 5060, now allz I need is the fabric & notions.

I'm in the process of finding the perfect fabric. I saw some nice gabardine (gab) fabric at Hancock's but they didn't have the right red. Can't find the right red online either, plus I'm not sure if it will be the right weight anyway.

There is some cotton/spandex sateen at Jo-eazy's (Jo-Ann) that will do, but I really think I want to keep looking for the gab until the Jo-eazy sale this weekend. We'll have to see what I come up with.

In other news, my kiddo is in love with this "Stripe Rumba Skort" from limitedtoo:


But it's like $35 - don't think so - and only because I know it wont fit her long lanky figure properly, I'd end up taking it in anyway. I think I can hook up a cuter but similar skirt for way less than half. I'm thinking of picking up some pink or white cotton for the skirt ~make it knee length~ w/ ribbons as the stripes on the flounce & cute heart shaped buttons trimming the yoke... Can't wait for the sale this weekend :)
