Kanubia (mad pics)

No, no baby yet. He's just hanging out, taking his time, just like his dad... And very much like his dad i believe he'll start rushing me when he is eventually ready lol! But I have been just hanging too. Getting as much rest as he will allow. I'm still working and plan on it until he comes or Doc says to stop.

Friends, family, colleagues and others have been extremely generous and giving towards me which is something I am SO not used to. I am usually the one helping out with the giving - which always makes me happy to do. To be "taken care of" when you're so used to ripping and running and getting things done is a new feeling for me, it took some acceptance at first, because I am the "I'll get it for you, even at my inconvenience" & "I'd rather just do it myself than wait for..." type. I hate asking for help from anyone (yes I'm one of those)!

But I appreciate all of those who have been surrounding me & the bambino-to-be with love & support. I did not have that available with my first pregnancy, it was just me & hubby "in the wilderness" as he says. We made it and it made us stronger. But I have recently learned that you also get stronger when you accept help! To say the least I have been OVERWHELMED (in a very good way) by the kindness of others in my life. Yes lots of tears of joy in the last few weeks. :)

But anywayz the fun stuff...

In my family sewing isn't just for clothing/crafts. My last sewing project was a weave for a client who wishes to remain unidentified. ha! Check out the pics:

just done - prestyled. She needs to separate & fuzz up the curls and shape up the style. She WILL NOT be walking around with these giant glistening curls! LMAO!!

Me acting a fool. "I'm Rick James B*tch."
(Warning, vulgar language!)"F*** yo couch!" (Warning, vulgar language!)

& Yes kiddo had to jump on the Fu Manchu bandwagon and tease my sis--Client.

Weaves are actually no biggie but I was tickled by the name on the package of hair. For some goofball reason I could not stop laughing at the name Kanubia. I have a "different" sense of humor though...

As far as baby sewing I am about 95% done I have one more project planned & cut and I'll call it a wrap. It's the Cheeky Monkey laundry bag from Amy Butler's Little Stitches. I would like to get it done before he gets here, but I am taking my time because of the energy allowance. But here's what's good.

baby shower dress.
Simplicity 3803 modified by cutting 1.5 inches from the front & back midriff pieces.
I also add 3 inches at the center front skirt tapering back up to meet the sides. Click the pic for a larger view. I will try to remember to get a better pic when I wear it next week.

removeable/washable changing pad cover (no pattern just a rectangle with a velcro opening on the back.
Curtains previously sewn YEARS ago for hubby. (this used to be his office) They coordinated so I left them.
I had this 2-door cabinet in my office area. It used to house my scanner, some books & photo printer. Since I'm cheap I rearranged some things and put it in the nursery until I'm ready to get real furniture. I covered the doors using glue. I got the drawers since they match the crib. These are closetmaid pieces from Target.
Cheater boppy & cover made from Simplicity 3561. I call it a cheat because, the cover fabric was a couple of bucks from the remnant bin & I made the pillow using the pattern for the pillowcover and some stashed muslin instead of dropping $20 for a Nurture nest pillowform. I purchased some Polyfill stuffing w/ my Joann coupon (paid about $2.50). The Nurture nest pillow is stuffed w/ polyfill anyway...
baby wrap from Butterick 4461. All cotton fabrics to keep it cooler for summer.

modified a gown from Ross for the hospital. Just added an invisible zip down the front. Can you see it? lol!
Diaper caddy from McCall's 4855 I left off the side pockets.

Phew seems like a lot! But I'm REALLY ready to start thinking about sewing for me again. I'll be patient tho. Gotta be.

I should have cheated...

I'm talking about with coffee! I had been banning coffee/caffeinated drinks from my life until bambino comes but this weekend hubby A.K.A Coffee Nerd Supreme brewed up some stuff I couldn't resist. I had a small cup both Saturday & Sunday and guess what...

I got three, yes THREE garments sewn and I wrote reviews! Hootie hoo!!

Vogue 1091

I made this one in a magenta & a gray interlock. This one will carry me through the summer with my post baby bod. I am ready to go find some cute sandals and some chunky bracelets to spice it up.

McCall's 5664

yes I made this back in October in red, and decided to try it again since it'd look cute as a maternity top. this time I made it with the short sleeves. I'll probably only get to wear it a few times until I bust out if it, but i like it.

I'm still gonna take it easy with joe, limiting it to weekends that I want to get some stuff done. It felt good to have some energy for once, but not so good sitting up past 1:00 am blogging about it.

Bit the bullet

I made some semi-bucket pants. Talk about the next best thing to sweats! I need more.

yes, i'm making the stank face :)

They aren't actual maternity pants, they are Vogue 1020 made one size up in a 16. They feel like sweats, look like regular pants. I think the sizing is OK, they still fall down a bit, especially in the A.M. before superbloat sets in. They have plenty of growing room.
I made them in a polyester ponte knit from Joann's so they are nice and warm for the winter. Too bad the color selection for this fabric sucks, I'd love another pair in navy and dark gray. They actually have those colors but they look too polyester.

I can't even manage a smile, but I feel great. My jeans are OUT at this point in the game.
I may go thrifting for a pair or two to preg-ify.

I'm actually excited about this pattern because of the dress and the top. I'm wondering how the dress would look on a preggo bod. I'd most def go with a solid color.

A cure for lethargy...

...is pants that don't fit. My waistline has grown by a whopping 6 inches, but on the flipside my hips/thighs have shrunk. So I'll probably look like a lollipop real soon. I'm not gonna even mention my bust area growth (although I just did, lol)

Plus I was missing my fellow bloggers' updates. SOOO many wonderful projects/vibes/inspirations going on out there. I think I'm ready to get back in the grove.

I had to get myself some pants because of the bulge. I have been hating on the maternity pattern offerings. The old elastic waist with the bucket front IS NOT CUTE!! Plus it seams kinda bulky. I did get Simplicity 4704 for the button down.

I mean come on!!!!! I'm sorry but I don't see the cuteness in this. I'd be embarrased wearing this.

So I braved the mall thinking I would buy. I went to Motherhood and did not appreciate the prices, Target wasn't much better. But the styling was kind of nice. Most of them looked like regular pants with a Lycra knit waistband. Which got me thinking, all I have to do is find a pant pattern with a low rise waist and replace the waistband.

Turns out I already had the pattern: McCall's 3935, now out of print. I've made these ages ago when I first got back into sewing, with good results. They are a very simple wide leg, mock fly front, no pocket pair of slacks. Good pattern for beginners if you can get your hands on it.

I made the pants as instructed in my usual size, but left out the zipper, and serged on a folded over knit band to the waist. It worked perfectly for fit, comfort and $. Plus I made two pair in a matter of a few hours, so I didn't wear myself out in the process.

I went to Jo's so I to pick up some on sale suiting fabric and I found the knits in the remnant bin, so these pants cost me about $10 each.

I'm not trying these on for ya 'cause... well just 'cause. Give me some time. Trust that they fit and feel great. I almost thought about making some to wear post pregnancy with a tighter waistband. But I promise I won't.
