Vogue 8413

A few months ago a coworker and I were looking at dresses on overstock.com and came across this dress:

It was love at first site for me, but I just knew I didn't have any occasion to wear it. I decided to make it anyway. Our holiday party at work is pretty casual and in past years I definitely went casual - and always looked a HAWTTTTT MESS in the photos. Not this year, I decided. This dress was perfect. I already had the pattern Vogue 8413 (so glad I'm a pattern hoarder collector)

I wore a mid-heels and black cardi to "casualise" it. No pics of that. I was minimal on jewelry and makeup-free so I didnt feel too "dressed." I'll get to wear it again for hubby's graduation so I'm glad I made it!

It was fairly easy to make, I'll review it later on to give the dirty deets. For now  Go here for the review and & check the pics below...

It's Spring Again!

Or so I thought...

Our trees started blooming late last week!

& I got my bike swag on Saturday. Then it was cold again on Sunday. This weather needs to change pronto because I must get rid of my winter (puff & blues) ya know!?! I'm ready for the open road!

I look so dorky huh? We (hubs & I) had fun though.

I finished my Anna Sui blouse. Vogue 2912
The back is pulling some around the bust.
I removed the back darts but it didn't help. I guess I can no longer avoid learning the FBA now.

I love the bow tie!

I was gonna get nice fabric, but I just used some Walmart $1 poly. I need to burn through this stash as much as possible before we move. The job hunt is moving along I've had a couple of "interviews" but nothing solid yet.

*exhale* Spring/Summer sewing

The new warm weather patterns have me all excited again...
Dear winter chill, please go away already! Love, narcissaqtpie

The new Simplicity's are out and this was the only appealing one. The rest are just plain out. Even though I have many similar patterns I'll get this one at the next sale because the envelope inspires me to go for a clean, cool & simple look this season.

The new Vogues on the other hand are OUTSTANDING.

First, the bad.

Now I initially thought Vogue was kidding us with that butt dress,
but now they've made a pooch dress....
OK, it's not funny any more, please stop.

V1052 Looks hideous on the model but
the neo-Denise Huxtable in me loves it!

Now for the good stuff!

V1043 Cool, airy and simple summer frock - with shape.
I'm almost over sack dresses.
I can do this in affordable-luxe linen or silk/blend
or a cool cotton print and wear it for summers to come.

I have other Alice + Olivia patterns but this one is making want to try their advanced techniques. I have the resources, no excuse right?
I love non-cookie cutter pants, in black of course.
Another summery dress. Perfect for festivals. if I'm still here.

OK I am an official Marci fan.
She's channeling my inner Cosby kid wannabe/Berkeley
memories with her artsy designs.
She gets a cool pass from now on.

I can totally see myself in a powersuit now because of this sexy pattern.

Cute summer work wardrobe. I am feeling solids right now.

What I've been up to...

In sewing news...

This weekend I worked on Vogue 8280 for little sis's upcoming b-day. I'm doing view F without the wings. It's easier than I thought it would be, but the instructions are a nightmare to navigate. Hopefully I can get a pic of her in it once it's done.

In crochet news...

I walked out the house today to go get Superbowl snacks and a package was on my porch! I thought I was gonna have to wait until Monday since I missed it earlier. What was inside? Beautifulness!!!

Yay!! I ::heart:: Tracey & my mail carrier until she messes up again

...and now for...
***MY OBSESSION***

A seamstress on PR made a dressform from a fitting shell pattern. Then a few days later I see these on Desire to Inspire. How beautiful right?

I want one bad. I'll use solid muslin for the first draft then find some awesome home dec for the final draft. I'm gonna use McCall's 2718 the fitting pattern I've had stashed for the last few years, and sew in some bra cups for boob shaping.

Honestly I don't care if I don't get it to match my measurements exactly because it will just look super pretty in my sewing area. I mainly use Betsey for draping anyway. I hope I see more people make these.

I gotta get some pics of my other skirt from last weekend. I'll try to do that tomorrow.
